Bruna and Upcyclick, a sustainable alliance that gives new life to garments

Bruna y Upcyclick, una alianza sostenible que da nueva vida a prendas - Bruna

The collaboration between Bruna and Upcyclick was born after the fashion firm participated in 2018, through its founder and creative director, María Alguacil , in crowdfunding to carry out the Upcyclick project, a Spanish start-up that aims to raise awareness about sustainable fashion consumption. In addition to its dissemination area through talks and workshops, Upcyclick adds a website that is, on the one hand, a meeting point between fashion makers and fashion lovers to facilitate the customization of garments; it also launches capsule fashion collections from scraps or stock garments. Its ideologist, Mariola Marcet , in turn paraphrases Yvon Chouinard , director of the Patagonia brand: "There is no more sustainable clothing than that which already exists." It works from that premise, and that is the starting point of this collaboration.
In January of this year, Upcyclick became an active part of the Sustainable Fashion Association of Madrid and the opportunity arose to parade on the Global Sustainable Fashion Week catwalk in Budapest, a moment that they took advantage of to make a capsule collection with stock garments from previous Bruna collections .
The selection and redesign of these garments that would make up the collection was the work of Bianca Fuentes , a stylist with whom Upcyclick regularly works. They chose the 60s as inspiration for the collection. "The apparent simplicity of Pertegaz 's patterns, the use of colour and the combinations of fabrics by Pedro Rodríguez or Balenciaga , as well as the unusual materials by Paco Rabanne , inspire this capsule collection full of optimism and freshness. What could have been seen as an uncertain and unpromising future became a revolution in much of the world almost 60 years ago," explains stylist Bianca Fuentes.
"It was a difficult job because the garments belonged to other collections and we had to find a connection so that they would fit together well and form a new collection. We wanted the buttons, earrings and ornaments to be sustainable and special. They are handcrafted by the Castellón ceramist Aida , who owns the AO3 Atelier workshop. The upcycling process has been artisanal thanks to a designer, Andra Cora , and a seamstress, Esperanza , with whom we work frequently, both from Valencia. Many of the customizations have been done using the moulage technique on a mannequin in order to better work the shapes," shares Mariola Marcet, CEO of Upcyclick.
