Tips for choosing a wedding guest dress
One of the most important tips for choosing a wedding guest dress is to be clear about the protocol and the place of the event . If the wedding is during the day or in the morning, we will choose wedding guest looks with short or midi dresses. Daytime weddings are usually more common than evening weddings, and therefore you can find a thousand options for your wedding guest dress. How to narrow down the search? Well, the location and the time of year are also very important. A wedding in winter is not the same as a wedding in spring or summer. Depending on the time of year, the fashion in wedding guest dresses also adapts to the weather.
Therefore, we will choose dresses or wedding guest looks with more luxurious, thick and heavy materials such as velvet, tweed, double crepe, etc. for the winter season and, however, when spring comes, the options are as unlimited as our imagination, from more spring-like printed dresses to much lighter and fresher fabrics as we approach the summer season. We will also adapt based on the color, leaving the boldest and brightest for summer and the dark and powdery ones for winter.
Choosing the ideal dress cut
We are always looking for an elegant dress to be the most sophisticated wedding guest and to do so, it is key to know the cuts that flatter our body. Always keep in mind that for morning weddings we will choose short or midi dresses , and for dinner or evening weddings we can opt for looks with more glamorous and sophisticated long dresses .
A highly recommended option (and one that we at #bruna love) is a two-piece look : party jacket suits or party top and pants sets; or even a tailored suit, which are always very chic options and will work for both daytime and nighttime weddings and are a sure bet for elegance.
Adapt to the type of event
It's not often that we have the chance to wear a long, "gala" dress these days, so without a doubt if it's an evening wedding it's a wonderful option to dress up and feel super elegant and sophisticated. At #bruna we're betting on plain colours because we think they'll always be more timeless and when we look back at those photos from that wedding we had 10 years ago we won't regret the look ;) Normally and from our experience, most evening weddings in our country take place during the summer, and that's why we love light and flowing fabrics. We really like to go for: plain fabrics with textures (like the Bella dress, which is also pleated ad-hoc), satin fabrics (like the Mindy dress, for example), and patterns with open backs (like the Rudolph dress, which is a best-seller season after season). As for colors, it's very important to choose a color that suits us well and that makes us look very flattering and comfortable, regardless of trends, since it's a long one-piece look that we'll wear from head to toe. That's why we think it's best to go for classic colors like red (even so, this color will be a trend for 2024), emerald green, or midnight blue. For those who are faithful followers of trends this season, they should go for citrus colors like lime green, and also soft pastel tones like mint green, sky blue, or powder pink.
Take into account your body shape
We should always look for shapes and patterns that flatter our figure. One of the most important keys to choosing a wedding guest dress is to know our body well and what suits us, both in terms of shapes and colors. We should know the colors that best suit our skin and hair color.
If there are certain patterns that you feel comfortable with in your everyday life, try to look for similar shapes when choosing your wedding guest dress because you will feel more comfortable and confident. For thin women, we can choose patterns with volume that provide that harmony of volume where it is needed, for example, women with small breasts can opt for 20s-style dresses or if what you want is to highlight the chest, look for patterns with a V-neck or Bardot style that draw attention to the upper part.
For guests with a pear-shaped silhouette , dresses with a cut at the waist, A-line silhouettes or empire cuts will look great, so as not to focus attention on the hips and yet adorn the upper part of the torso either with ornaments on the shoulders or a striking necklace or earrings, trying to visually balance the silhouette to make it more harmonious.
For guests with an apple-shaped silhouette , choose flowing looks, with a skirt, high waist and flared cut (not pleated or gathered to avoid adding more volume).
For hourglass silhouettes , look to highlight curves with fitted or mermaid cuts, or short dresses or pencil skirts.
One of the keys that you should always keep in mind, but not only when choosing a guest dress but in your day to day life, is to always look for harmony and proportions of the body . That is, if you have little chest and narrow shoulders, the volume should be visually in that part of your body, for example through accessories using earrings or necklaces with 3D shapes or for example scarves around the neck, which is always a very chic option, which in the guest version we can replace with scarves, capes or capes; or if for example, you have a lot of chest and hips, highlight your waist by framing it with belts or using another color in this area, for example a sash, and thus you will draw attention to the narrowest part of your silhouette, it is Michelle Obama's trick ;)
Match with accessories
Accessories are the key to any look and what will make the difference . We recommend using accessories that are coherent and in harmony with the rest of the look. We cannot forget about headdresses, hats or hair pieces.
For us it depends a lot on the guest's style. We believe that not all guests should wear a headdress if they don't feel 100% comfortable and confident with the piece in question, that is, you have to defend the piece and if in doubt it's better not to wear it. It also depends on common sense, that is, it depends on where the wedding is, since it's not the same if the wedding is in a place in the south of Spain in summer with lots of sun where it makes sense to wear a sunhat or a raffia hat that protects us from the sun precisely, and perhaps in areas of the north in winter where the weather is not conducive in the sense that it is more likely to rain, then it doesn't look as good to wear a hat or a headdress in the rain. For those who decide to go for headdresses, our advice is without a doubt to wear larger pieces such as hats, sunhats or winged headdresses at weddings exclusively in the morning.
For evening weddings , we recommend opting for small pieces such as headbands, crowns and turbans (we can choose rich fabrics such as satin or velvet to add a touch of glamour and nocturnality, such as our Ines, Zehra or Emily headbands/turbans, for example). For those guests who prefer to do without these types of larger pieces, there are thousands of options currently for both day and night, such as jewel-like hairpins or velvet bows, which are very trendy at the moment and look beautiful in the hairstyle and give a very elegant and romantic touch to the look. Our Erin or Tina hairpins are a good example, as well as the Audrey velvet bow.
